Come Convention Week, WHYY, KYW, Philadelphia Magazine, NBC10 and Metro will add 25 new bylines to their Convention coverage thanks to the Philadelphia high school and middle school students reporting for the Youth News Team. The Youth News Team is the result of a partnership between the Philadelphia 2016 Host Committee, WHYY, KYW Newsradio, the Rendell Center for Civics and Civic Engagement and funded jointly by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and Philadelphia Foundation.

This week, the students are in journalism boot camp, a collaboration between the Philadelphia School District’s education channel and WHYY, where the students are getting hands-on training in journalism, production and convention politics prior to Convention Week. Then, led by teachers and a mentor journalist from each outlet during Convention Week, students will create original news stories covering Convention-related activities, various caucus meetings and events. These stories will be published and promoted on PSTV, WHYY, KYW, PhillyMag.com, Metro, NBC10 and on the Host Committee’s Facebook and Twitter channels using #DNCYNT.
