PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Philadelphia 2016 Host Committee for the Democratic National Convention today announced the installation of its 57 fiberglass “Donkeys Around Town.” The donkeys, each representing a Democratic delegation coming to Philadelphia to participate in the Convention, will be installed over the course of the day today, in time for Wawa Welcome America! and the Fourth of July weekend. They will remain in their locations through September 9th. A full list of the donkeys and their respective locations is included below.
“Philadelphians will finally be able to enjoy our ‘Donkeys Around Town,’ which we are excited to install today in publicly accessible locations throughout the city,” said former Pennsylvania Governor and Philadelphia 2016 Host Committee Chair Ed Rendell. “This program has been a great partnership between the Host Committee, the Mural Arts Program and each of the Democratic delegations coming to town, and I can’t wait to see all of our donkeys on display for Philadelphians, delegates and visitors to enjoy.”
The Host Committee also announced specifics about the “Donkeys Around Town” scavenger hunt, which will take place on the free app Scavify, which will allow users to complete challenges at each of the donkeys they find across the city. The app can be found at scavify.com/dnc. Users will have to download the app in order to participate in the scavenger hunt.
Each donkey will have a corresponding interactive challenge that can be completed to earn points using the app. Participants will be asked to answer questions, check in via GPS, or take fun photos at each donkey location to accumulate points and win prizes. Individuals will also be encouraged to share their scavenger hunt experiences on social media using #DonkeysAroundTown. While the donkeys will be on display for two months, the scavenger hunt will take place only during the Convention, from July 21st to 28th.
Prizes for the scavenger hunt will be tiered and based on a point system, with each donkey worth 10 points. The more donkeys a user finds, the more points he/she will accrue and the higher the prizing tier. The tiers include:
- 50 points (5 donkeys): Family fun pack, including tickets to Philadelphia’s most popular museums, tours, attractions and eateries.
- 150 points (15 donkeys): Choice of either an official “Donkeys Around Town t-shirt” or commemorative Visit Philadelphia magnetic photo frame.
- 300 points (30 points): Complimentary cheesesteak from Sonny’s Famous Cheesesteak as well as entrance into a Grand Prize raffle for either a two-night stay at the Hyatt at the Bellevue, provided by Visit Philadelphia, and gift cards to local restaurants for each night OR the “Ultimate Philadelphia Sports Experience” which includes two tickets to a game during the 2016-17 season of each of Philadelphia’s major sports teams.
- 310-570 points (31-57 donkeys): Extra entry for into the Grand Prize raffle.
The Grand Prize drawing will take place on July 29th. All prizes will be redeemed at the Independence Visitor Center at 6th and Markets Streets.
