PHILADELPHIA, PA—The Philadelphia 2016 Host Committee for the Democratic National Convention today announced a promotional campaign called “You Don’t Want to Miss This” to remind residents to stay in town and participate in the many activities and events it is planning for the public during the Convention. The campaign will use #DNCDontMissThis on social media, and the Host Committee encourages residents to follow and use the hashtag to learn more about local happenings around town as well as post their own experiences enjoying the Convention-related public events.
“The Host Committee is committed to ensuring that Philadelphians, as well as delegates and guests, have a great time in our city during the DNC, and this promotional campaign is a reminder of all the fun that will take place here because the Convention is in town,” said Kevin Washo, Executive Director of the Philadelphia 2016 Host Committee. “We want residents to be part of the festivities and fanfare occurring around the city – it’s something they won’t want to miss.”
The “You Don’t Want to Miss This” campaign includes the following programs and events:
#DNCDeals will help build excitement and create a fun and engaging atmosphere for Philadelphia and the Convention. Shops, restaurants, bars and attractions will offer unique and exclusive deals or specials on food, beverage, clothing and merchandise, attraction admission, and more. #DNCDeals can be enjoyed by Convention attendees, media and residents. Businesses using #DNCDeals to promote their specials will be able to update existing deals or add more deals to #DNCDeals at any time, simply by using #DNCDeals from their Twitter and Instagram accounts. Phillyfunguide.com, visitphilly.com, uwishunu.com and PHLDNC.com will highlight some of the best deals, specials and exhibits posted to #DNCDeals during Convention Week. Philly Feast, United We Eat:
Philly Feast will be a Night Market-style food truck festival that will take place during the day and will kick off Convention Week. The festival will include a diverse lineup of locally-based food trucks, live music, and retail vendors. The event will bring together Convention guests, volunteers and Philadelphia residents on the first day of the Convention, Monday, July 25th, 11am-3pm, at 3rd and Arch Streets, in Old City.
Center City District Sips:
The Host Committee and Center City District are seeking to create the biggest outdoor Center City District Sips ever on Wednesday, July 27th by encouraging residents, delegates, and Convention guests to begin their Sips experience at Dilworth Plaza, Comcast Plaza, and Centre Square at 5pm. They will then be encouraged to continue their evening at other participating Sips locations during the Center City-wide happy hour.
The Host Committee is working with local bars, restaurants, and venues that have TVs to hold watch parties each night of the Convention, especially the final night, Thursday, July 28th, when the Democratic candidate for President will formally accept the nomination. These watch parties will allow members of the public to convene and experience the Convention in some of the best spots in Philadelphia.
Lights and Décor:
Storefronts around the city will be decorated in red, white, and blue and the city skyline, Boathouse Row, and Avenue of the Arts will be illuminated in blue for the duration of the Convention. Skyline buildings that will glow blue each night of the Convention include:

Donkeys Around Town:
Donkeys Around Town will be an installation of 57 fiberglass donkeys, each painted by a local artist to represent a participating Convention delegation and placed in publicly accessible locations across Philadelphia. The donkeys will be on display July 1st-September 5th, and members of the public will be encouraged to participate in an app-based scavenger hunt to find all 57 donkeys.
PoliticalFest will be a one-of-a-kind festival celebrating political history, government and the road to the White House. It will be a non-partisan exhibit comprising seven participating locations, each centered around a specific theme related to American politics, government, and history. It will be a ticketed event, open to the public and appropriate for all ages, running from July 22nd-27th.
The Host Committee is partnering with local TV broadcast stations to air public service announcements, which will be produced by CBS 3, that will remind residents about the different, public events that will occur during the Convention. The PSAs will also highlight the fact that Philadelphia restaurants should still have openings for local patrons interested in dining out, irrespective of the Convention. The PSAs will begin airing in the next few weeks.

The “You Don’t Want to Miss This” campaign was announced at a press conference at Top of the Tower and also served as the kickoff of Center City Sips 2016. Sips will take place during Convention Week, and will be one of the fun events for both residents and Convention guests to participate in together. Art in the Age treated press conference guests to Philadelphia Fish House Punch, a cocktail that can be traced back to 1732 and which was enjoyed by George Washington. The recipe served at the event was a twist on the original from Steven Grasse’s upcoming book, Colonial Spirits: A Toast To Our Drunken History, an almanac of spirits, the Founding Fathers and the birth of the nation.
The Democratic National Convention will take place July 25-28, 2016 in Philadelphia.
