PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Philadelphia 2016 Host Committee for the Democratic National Convention today premiered “Philadelphia in 360°,” a 360° Virtual Reality anthem that welcomes delegates, visitors and audiences beyond Philadelphia with a totally immersive experience into diverse neighborhoods, museums, music venues and key landmarks of Philadelphia. The Host Committee commissioned regional media producer, Greenfish Labs, to produce the city’s first digital innovation piece of its kind. “Philadelphia in 360°” can be viewed on the Host Committee’s YouTube channel, Facebook page and at PhillyVR.com using a smartphone or PC.
“Our goal across all our social platforms is to showcase the best of Philadelphia, and this Virtual Reality film is a great way to experience even more of what the city has to offer,” said Kevin Washo, Executive Director of the Philadelphia 2016 Host Committee. “We hope those in Philadelphia and those watching our city next week and beyond take some time to experience “Philadelphia in 360°” to get a glimpse of what this city is all about.”
City Representative, Sheila Hess, appears in the opening of “Philadelphia in 360°” standing in front of City Hall, one of the nation’s oldest operating municipal buildings; she provides narration throughout the film. City Representative Hess’s voiceover takes the viewer past historic landmarks, public art (Philadelphia has the oldest and largest public art collection in the country) and some of Philadelphia’s culinary institutions. The film provides the viewer with access not often seen on a typical tour of the city. In “Philadelphia 360°” the viewer can explore the Mayor’s Reception Room in City Hall and take in the views from the top of the Tower just under the statue of the city’s founder, William Penn.
“‘Philadelphia in 360°’ is a fabulous way Philadelphia visitors and residents can experience the city before leaving their hotel or home,” said City Representative Sheila Hess. “I am thrilled to be a part of this film – it’s a piece of digital innovation that we’ll reference well-beyond the Democratic National Convention.”
The 360° Virtual Reality film was shot primarily with the Nokia Ozo, which is a cinema production grade VR camera. The Ozo captures 360° environments in 3D video and 360° ambisonic sound. Greenfish Labs formed a working relationship with Nokia to be one of the first multimedia production houses in the world to have access to the Ozo technology.
“We love Philadelphia, and are honored to be asked to create a unique VR film which showcases this great city to the world,” said Greenfish’s President and Founder Sovanna Mam. “VR has the power to become the dominant platform for creating unique customer experiences. It makes sense that Philadelphia, a pioneering city itself, would be an early adopter of this technology as a new way of experiencing the best of Philadelphia.”
In addition to their work for the Philadelphia 2016 Host Committee, Greenfish is currently traveling to Poland with the American Bible Society to produce 360 videos of the Vatican’s World Youth Day events next week. Greenfish Labs is a disruptive multimedia company that produces interactive content and platforms that increase customer engagement. By combining advanced technical expertise with the art of storytelling, they create immersive media that enriches the way fans, followers and friends can experience brands they love.
